CALL
FOR TUTORIAL PROPOSALS
PAKDD 2006
10th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery
and Data Mining
Singapore, April 9 - 12, 2006
http://www.ntu.edu.sg/sce/pakdd2006/
The PAKDD series of conferences
is an established and prestigious forum for
the exchange of the latest research results
in data mining. Held annually at attractive
Australasian cities, the conference provides
unique opportunities for data mining researchers,
practitioners, developers, and users to explore
new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange
experiences. The previous events were held in
Singapore, Melbourne, Beijing, Kyoto, Hong Kong,
Taipei, Seoul, Sydney, and Hanoi. PAKDD 2006
will be once again held in Singapore.
An integral part of PAKDD
2006 is the tutorial program. Presenters are
invited to submit proposals for tutorials in
all areas of data mining. Tutorials will typically
be either full-day (6 hrs) or half-day (3 hrs).
The tutorial proposal should include the following:
*Title
*Full-day or half-day tutorial
*A brief summary of the topic
*Outline including a short summary of every
section
*Specific goals and objectives
*Expected background of the audience
*A biographical sketch of the presenter(s)
*Audio Visual equipment needed for the presentation
We will consider proposals
for introductory and advanced tutorials on any
Data Mining topic, but original tutorials not
yet or recently presented elsewhere will be
favoured. Introductory tutorials should target
an audience consisting of advanced undergraduate
and graduate students, as well as attendees
from industry. Suggested tutorial topics are
those of the conference themes, which can be
found at http://www.ntu.edu.sg/sce/pakdd2006/
The proposal should be no
more 5 pages in length. Attach a cover sheet
to each copy with the presenter's name, affiliation,
address, email, phone, and fax. Submission must
be received by October 31, 2005. Please submit
your proposals via email to one of Tutorial
Co-Chairs:
*Sourav S Bhowmick (assourav@ntu.edu.sg)
*Osmar Zaiane (zaiane@cs.ualberta.ca)
Proposals will be evaluated
by a committee and voted upon based on merit
and relevance. The presenter of a selected tutorial
will receive an honorarium. Multiple presenters
split the honorarium per their specification.
They will be required to provide comprehensive
tutorial notes (printable slides) prior to the
event, which will then be published on the PAKDD
web site and thus be made available to conference
attendees free of charge.
Tutorials will be presented
during the main PAKDD conference as parallel
sessions.
