Call for Tutorials

The Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD) is a leading international conference in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery (KDD). It provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences from all KDD related areas, including data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, databases, statistics, knowledge engineering, visualization, and decision-making systems.

This year, PAKDD 2017 will be held in Jeju, South Korea, the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. We invite proposals for half-day tutorials from active researchers in both academia and industry who are experienced tutors. Ideally, a tutorial will cover the state-of-the-art research, development and applications in a specific data mining direction that stimulate and facilitate future work. Tutorials on interdisciplinary directions, novel and fast growing directions, and significant applications are highly encouraged. All tutorials at PAKDD 2017 will have the half-day format (ie, 3 hours).

A tutorial proposal should include the following and should not exceed 4 pages excluding references:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Presenter's name, affiliation, email, and a short bio
  • Outline including a short summary of every section
  • Specific goals and objectives
  • Why is the topic important/interesting to PAKDD audience?
  • What is the expected background of the audience?
  • Description of the previous versions of tutorial (if any)
  • Audio Visual equipment needed for the presentation
  • A list of up to 20 most important references that will be covered in the tutorial

Important Dates

  • Proposals due: November 14 (Mon), 2016
  • Tutorial Notification: January 13 (Fri), 2017

Please submit your proposals in PDF to all Tutorial Chairs via email as shown below. Proposals will be evaluated by the chairs and voted upon based on merit and relevance. The tutorial presenters will be required to provide comprehensive tutorial notes (printable slides) prior to the event, which will then be published on the PAKDD web site and thus be made available to conference attendees free of charge. Tutorials will be presented during the main PAKDD conference as parallel sessions. All presenters in the submitted proposal MUST attend to present the tutorial, or the session could be cancelled. We support each tutorial either ONE free registration or hotel equivalent to one registration during the conference. The speaker(s) choose it.
